He is the largest individual shareholder of Itausa, the bank's holding company.
His grandfather founded Dexco, a publicly-traded Brazilian maker of wood paneling and bathroom fixtures; he owns a stake in the company.
He currently serves as Itausa's executive vice president.
His parents died in a plane crash in 1982, when he was 12; he was raised by his aunt, Maria de Lourdes Egydio Villela.
In 1992, he received his degree in mechanical engineering.
