He succeeded his father J. Frank Harrison, Jr. (d. 2002) as CEO in 1994 and chairman in 1996.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina and Duke MBA, he joined the Charlotte-based company in 1977 and got his start running routes and operating bottling lines.
A devout Christian, he cofounded a missionary organization called Open Eyes with his son James Harrison IV, who died while doing relief work in Kenya in 2010.
